Christmas Mouse Craft for Kids – Free Template

If you're looking for a Christmas craft that's equal parts adorable and clever, this Christmas mouse is going to be your new holiday favorite! With a folded paper head, pink pompom nose, wiggly whiskers, rosy ears, and tiny arms wrapped around a striped Christmas present, this little mouse looks like it scurried straight out of a storybook. Whether you're crafting at home, making Christmas cards for family, or running a holiday craft activity in the classroom, this sweet little mouse is guaranteed to melt everyone's heart.

Why Kids Love This Craft

What makes this mouse so special is how it comes together through folding — kids fold the paper to create the mouse's pointed head, and suddenly it starts looking like a real little creature right in their hands. The moment the pink pompom nose goes on and the arms fold down to "hold" the present, the whole thing clicks and kids absolutely love it. It's a wonderful craft for building fine motor skills through folding, cutting, and careful gluing, and because it mounts on a folded cardstock card, kids end up with a finished Christmas card they're genuinely proud to give as a gift.

What You'll Need

  • White paper
  • Paper for the "present"
  • Small pink pompom
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Cardstock paper folded as a card

How to Make a Christmas Mouse

Step 1 — Fold the head. Fold the template along the solid line to create the mouse's pointed triangular head shape.

Step 2 — Cut out all the pieces. Cut along all the dotted lines to cut out the mouse body, ears, and present pieces.

Step 3 — Color the ears and present. Color the inner ear sections pink and decorate the present with festive red and green stripes or patterns.

Step 4 — Assemble the head. Glue the top of the folded triangle to the dot indicated on the template to lock the head shape in place.

Step 5 — Glue down the present. Position the wrapped present on the lower center of the mouse's body and glue it in place.

Step 6 — Add the pompom nose. Glue the small pink pompom right at the tip of the mouse's pointed nose for that irresistibly cute finishing touch.

Step 7 — Fold the arms around the present. Fold the mouse's little arms forward and glue the tips down on either side of the present so it looks like the mouse is hugging it tight.

Step 8 — Attach the ears. Glue the pink ears behind the folded head on either side so they peek out from behind the top of the head.

Step 9 — Mount on the card. Glue the finished mouse onto the front of the folded cardstock card. Write a Christmas message inside and your card is complete!

Tips for Making It Even Better

  • Use a black fine-tip marker to draw thin whisker lines on both sides of the nose for extra mouse charm — three lines on each side does the trick perfectly.
  • Draw two small black dots for eyes just above the nose before the pompom goes on — simple and sweet.
  • Decorate the present with a real ribbon or twine bow instead of drawing one for a gorgeous dimensional effect.
  • Write "Not a creature was stirring... except this one!" inside the card for a funny and festive message kids will love.
