How to Make a Paper Chain Octopus Craft

Step 1 — Print and cut out the template. Download the free Paper Chain Octopus template from CraftyYak.com and carefully cut out all the pieces — the oval body, the eyes, the cheeks, and all the paper chain strips. Having everything cut out before you start assembling makes the whole process much smoother!

Step 2 — Add the eyes and cheeks. Glue the two large cartoon eyes onto the lower center of the purple body, then glue a small pink circle cheek on each side just below the eyes. Press everything down firmly and let the glue set.

Step 3 — Draw the face details. Using a black marker draw two small curved eyebrows above the eyes, a big cheerful smile below the cheeks, and a cluster of small oval speckles across the upper forehead of the body. These little details are what give the octopus its irresistible cartoon personality!

Step 4 — Build the paper chain tentacles. Take your paper chain strips and begin looping and gluing them together into chains, alternating between your two colors as you go for a beautiful two tone tentacle effect. Make eight chains of roughly equal length — one for each tentacle. The loop, tuck, and glue rhythm is incredibly satisfying and kids can spend ages happily building their chains!

Step 5 — Attach the tentacles. On the last loop of each finished chain leave a small flat tab instead of closing the loop fully. Press everything down firmly and let the glue dry completely.
