Whether you're exploring arctic animals at home, planning a winter wildlife unit in the classroom, or just looking for a fun cold-weather craft activity, this polar bear is cool in every sense of the word.
Why Kids Love This Craft
There's something really irresistible about this polar bear — the combination of the giant googly eyes and the fluffy black pom-pom nose gives it so much personality that kids fall in love with it the moment it's finished. The layered assembly process is deeply satisfying too, with the face sitting on top of the body and the ears and tail tucked in just the right spots. Drawing the whisker dots, toes, and inner ear details is where kids really make it their own, and no two polar bears ever turn out exactly alike. It's a wonderful craft for building fine motor skills through cutting, gluing, and detail drawing, and the all-white color scheme means even simple materials produce a stunning result.
What You'll Need
- 9-inch paper plate
- White paper
- Black pom-pom (1 inch)
- 2 googly eyes (1 inch)
- Black marker

- Glue
How to Make a Paper Plate Polar Bear
Step 1 — Cut out the body shape. Cut the 9-inch paper plate into the polar bear's rounded body shape using the template as your guide.
Step 2 — Cut out the face and muzzle. Cut the face circle and muzzle piece from white paper, then glue the muzzle onto the center of the face and glue the completed face onto the body.
Step 3 — Add the ears and tail. Cut out the small rounded ear pieces and the tail from white paper. Glue the ears to the top of the head and the tail to the back of the body.
Step 4 — Draw the details. Use a black marker to draw the mouth curve below the muzzle, small whisker dot circles on each cheek, tiny toes at the bottom of the body, and a curved line inside each ear.
Step 5 — Glue on the googly eyes. Attach two 1-inch googly eyes to the face just above the muzzle for that irresistible polar bear expression.
Step 6 — Add the pom-pom nose. Glue the 1-inch black pom-pom right in the center of the muzzle for a big, bold, perfectly round nose. Let everything dry completely.

Tips for Making It Even Better
- The 1-inch pom-pom nose is a key detail — it gives the polar bear a dimensional, almost stuffed-animal quality that kids absolutely love. Don't skip it!
- Use a slightly larger circle for the muzzle so it stands out clearly from the face and gives the bear that classic snout shape.
- Drawing the whisker spots in a symmetrical pattern on both cheeks makes the finished bear look really polished and intentional.
- Pair this polar bear with other arctic animal crafts for a cool winter wildlife wall display — perfect for January and February classroom décor!
