Stripe-tastic Paper Plate Zebra Craft for Kids

If your little ones love zoo animals, this paper plate zebra craft is going to be an instant favorite! With bold black-and-white stripes, a cute fuzzy mane, and googly eyes, this adorable zebra comes together with just a paper plate and a few simple supplies. Whether you're running a safari theme at home, planning a zoo unit in the classroom, or just looking for a creative afternoon activity, this craft is guaranteed to be a hit.

Why Kids Love This Craft

There's something really satisfying about turning a plain white paper plate into a wild animal — and this zebra delivers big on the wow factor. Kids love painting or coloring the bold stripes, and assembling all the pieces feels like putting together a puzzle. It's a great craft for building fine motor skills through cutting, gluing, and detail work, and the finished zebra looks so good kids will want to hang it up right away.

What You'll Need

  • 6-inch paper plate
  • Black paper or black paint/marker/crayon
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • White paper
  • Googly eyes (½ inch, optional)
  • Felt for the hair (or black paper)

How to Make a Paper Plate Zebra

Step 1 — Color the template. Use black paint, marker, or crayon to fill in the stripes, muzzle, and ear details on the template.

Step 2 — Cut out everything. Carefully cut out all the pieces — the stripes, muzzle, ears, and hair.

Step 3 — Glue on the stripes. Arrange and glue the black stripe pieces around the paper plate face, fanning them out from the center toward the edges.

Step 4 — Glue on the muzzle. Attach the large black muzzle shape to the bottom center of the plate.

Step 5 — Assemble the ears. Glue the white inner ear onto the black outer ear piece for each ear.

Step 6 — Glue the ears onto the head. Position and glue both ears onto the upper sides of the plate.

Step 7 — Add the hair. Glue felt strips or black paper hair between the ears at the top of the head for that wild zebra mane.

Step 8 — Add the eyes. Glue on googly eyes or paper eyes just above the muzzle.

Step 9 — Draw the finishing touches. Use a white crayon or paint pen to add nostrils and a smile to the muzzle. Let everything dry completely.

Your wild and wonderful paper plate zebra is ready to roam! 🦓

Tips for Making It Even Better

  • Black paint gives the boldest, most striking stripes — but markers and crayons work great too for younger kids.
  • Felt for the mane adds a fun texture kids love to touch, but black paper strips work just as well.
