Summer Beach Scene Paper Craft for Kids – Free Template

If your little ones love all things summer, this Beach Scene Paper Craft is going to be an absolute showstopper! With a stunning 3D accordion folded sun glowing in the corner, a gorgeous layered multicolor beach umbrella fanning out in pink, blue, and green, a wavy sandy ocean floor, a fluffy white cloud drifting across the sky, and adorable beach accessories like a striped beach chair, flip flops, and Sun Sand Surf themed details, this beach scene looks like a piece of art kids made themselves. Whether you're wrapping up the school year, planning a summer theme in the classroom, heading into summer camp season, or just looking for a creative rainy day project, this Beach Scene Paper Craft is guaranteed to bring the summer vibes from the very first fold of the paper.

Why Kids Love This Craft

There's something wonderfully immersive about building a whole scene from scratch — every element kids add makes the beach come more alive, and the moment the 3D accordion folded sun and the layered umbrella go onto the background is genuinely magical. The folding technique used for both the sun and the umbrella gives the finished scene a beautiful dimensional quality that makes it look far more impressive than the simple steps would suggest, and because kids can choose their own colors for the umbrella and add whatever beach accessories they like, every finished scene has its own unique personality. It's a wonderful craft for building fine motor skills through coloring, folding, cutting, and gluing, and the finished result is stunning enough to frame and hang on the wall.

How to Make a Summer Beach Scene Paper Craft

Step 1 — Print and color the template. Download the free Summer Beach Scene template from CraftyYak.com and print it out. Color the umbrella panels in alternating bright colors, the sun circles in yellow or gold, and all the beach accessories in fun summery shades. This is a great opportunity for kids to get creative with their color choices!

Step 2 — Cut out the umbrella panels. Carefully cut out all six umbrella panel pieces from the template. These will be folded and layered together to create the beautiful 3D beach umbrella.

Step 3 — Build the accordion umbrella. Fold each umbrella panel in half and glue them together one by one, alternating colors as you go. As you add each panel the umbrella fans out more and more — watch the video tutorial on CraftyYak.com for help with this step! Attach the white paper pole to the bottom of the finished umbrella.

Step 4 — Build the accordion sun. Using the same folding technique, fold each sun circle in half and glue them together one by one until you have a beautiful 3D round sun. The more circles you use the fuller and more dimensional the sun will look!

Step 5 — Create the sandy ocean floor. Cut the tan or brown sand strip from the template in a gentle wavy pattern along the top edge and glue it along the bottom of your light blue background paper. This instantly sets the perfect beach scene atmosphere!

Step 6 — Assemble the scene. Glue the 3D sun to the upper left corner of the background, the fluffy white cloud near the center top, and the beach umbrella slightly off center to the right. Then add the beach chair, flip flops, and any other beach accessories from the template wherever feels right to complete your scene.

Step 7 — Add the finishing details. Cut out and glue any remaining beach accessories — the surfboard, beach ball, sand castle, seashell, or Sun Sand Surf tags — to personalize your beach scene and make it truly your own!

Your summer beach scene is ready to shine! 🏖️☀️

Tips for Making It Even Better

  • Use bright neon or patterned scrapbook paper for the umbrella panels instead of plain construction paper — it makes the finished umbrella look absolutely stunning and really pops against the light blue background.
  • The more umbrella panels you use the fuller and more dimensional the finished umbrella will look — don't be afraid to print the template twice for extra panels!
  • Add a strip of blue construction paper above the sandy floor for the ocean before gluing everything down — it gives the scene an extra layer of depth and really completes the beach atmosphere.
  • This beach scene looks amazing framed and displayed as summer bedroom wall art — kids will be so proud to show it off all summer long!
