Whether you're celebrating Memorial Day at home, planning a Fourth of July theme in the classroom, or just looking for a fun summer craft, this USA Ice Cream is guaranteed to bring smiles from the very first snip of the scissors.

Why Kids Love This Craft

There's something irresistible about this ice cream craft — kids go absolutely wild for the little faces on each scoop, and every child draws theirs a little differently so no two cones ever look exactly the same. The bold red, white, and blue color combination looks striking and festive, and the waffle cone detail gives the finished craft a wonderfully realistic look that kids are incredibly proud of. It's a wonderful craft for building fine motor skills through cutting, gluing, and drawing, and because kids can choose to color the template directly or trace and cut from colored paper, it works for every skill level and every classroom setup.

How to Make a USA Ice Cream Craft

Step 1 — Print and cut out the template. Head to CraftyYak.com and download the free USA Ice Cream template. Print it out and carefully cut out all the pieces — the three ice cream scoops and the waffle cone.

Step 2 — Trace onto colored paper or color the template directly. No time to glue? Just color the template red, white, blue, and tan and cut it out as one piece — it's just as adorable! If you have a little more time, trace each piece onto the matching colored paper and cut them out for a bolder, more vibrant finished look.

Step 3 — Draw the cone details. Using a brown marker, draw a crosshatch waffle pattern across the cone piece to give it that classic ice cream cone texture. This step is so satisfying and kids love doing it!

Step 4 — Glue the scoops together. Glue the three ice cream scoops together slightly overlapping — blue on the bottom, white in the middle, and red on top. Press them down firmly and let the glue set before moving on.

Step 5 — Attach the cone. Glue the waffle cone to the back of the bottom blue scoop so it peeks out from underneath. This gives the whole craft that perfect ice cream cone silhouette!

Step 6 — Draw the faces. Using a black marker, draw a cute little face on each scoop — eyes, a smile, and whatever expression feels right! This is every kid's favorite step and where all the personality comes through.

Tips for Making It Even Better

  • Use cardstock instead of regular construction paper for the scoops — it holds its shape better and gives the finished craft a cleaner, more polished look.
  • Encourage kids to give each scoop a different expression — happy, surprised, sleepy — for maximum personality and fun!
  • Add a small white highlight dot to each scoop with a white crayon or paint pen to make them look shiny and delicious.
  • This craft looks amazing displayed on a red, white, and blue paper background for a full patriotic scene — perfect for a classroom bulletin board or a holiday party decoration!
