Why Kids Love This Craft
There's something really magical about this mailbox — kids get to build the whole thing AND create a personalized love letter to go inside it. The flag on the side, the hearts scattered across the front, and the fun address "143 Love St." all add up to a finished piece that feels like a complete little story. It's a wonderful craft for fine motor skill development through cutting, coloring, and assembling, and the creative freedom to decorate and write their own message makes every mailbox totally unique.
What You'll Need
- 9-inch paper plate
- Scrap paper for the flag and post
- Paint, markers, or crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
How to Make a Valentine Mailbox
Step 1 — Cut out the mailbox shape. Cut the paper plate into a mailbox shape, or use the template to cut the mailbox body from paper.
Step 2 — Assemble the mailbox door. Glue the door flap piece onto the front of the mailbox, positioned slightly open so the love letter can peek out.
Step 3 — Add the flag and post. Cut out the red flag and brown post pieces and glue them in place — post at the bottom, flag raised up on the upper right side.
Step 4 — Color and decorate. Paint or color the mailbox pink and scatter little red hearts all over the front. Write "143 Love St." or a fun address of your own!
Step 5 — Add extra hearts. Draw or glue additional hearts anywhere on the mailbox for extra Valentine's Day flair.
Step 6 — Create the love letter. Cut a heart shape for the letter, write "Be Mine," "Happy Valentine's Day," or any sweet message, and tuck it into the open mailbox door.

Tips for Making It Even Better
- Pink paint gives the most vibrant mailbox color, but pink or red paper works just as well and skips the drying time.
- Let kids come up with their own creative address — "123 Heart Lane" or "1 Cupid Court" are always crowd pleasers!
- Write "Be My Valentine? ☐ Yes ☐ No" on the love letter for an extra funny and adorable touch.
- Make one for each classmate with a personalized letter inside for the sweetest valentine anyone will receive all day.
